Why it suits the 150 Prado.
The spare stays on the barn door. The swing opens to the passenger side so the door still clears. The pass-through hitch keeps the 3.5T tow rating, and the whole thing comes off in ten minutes.

The wheel stays where it is.
On a 150 the spare lives on the rear barn door, and the base station fits around it. Nothing gets relocated, and nothing has to come off the door.

The barn door still opens.
The swing opens to the passenger side, so the swing arm and the barn door clear each other. You can still get into the back at camp with the rack loaded.

Sits cleanly with the tow bar.
The pass-through hitch is ADR compliant for 3.5T, so the tow rating stays. Just deduct the loaded rack (~105kg) from your tow ball limit before you hook up the van.

Common questions from owners.
Do I have to take the spare off the barn door?
No. On a 150 the spare stays on the factory barn door and the base station fits around it. Nothing gets relocated and nothing has to come off.
Which way should the swing open?
Passenger side on a 150. That way the swing arm and the rear barn door clear each other. If you run an awning on the passenger side, tell us before you order and we'll talk it through.
How does it sit alongside the tow bar?
The pass-through hitch slides into the standard 50mm receiver and extends rearward by ~250mm. ADR compliant, 3.5T rated. The tow bar stays where it is — nothing comes off.
Tow ball weight maths when caravan towing?
Deduct the loaded rack weight from your tow ball capacity. A loaded rack is ~105kg. Tow with the heavy gear on the trailer and transfer it to the rack at camp — the swing arm doesn't open with a trailer hitched, the 1.4m arm hits.
Will the rear sensors and camera still work?
The bar can block the rear parking sensors. On a 150 those are only fitted to the VX and Kakadu — every grade has the reverse camera. We sell a camera and rear-sensor attachment separately if you want it moved.
Can I install it myself?
Yes. Ten minutes in the driveway. Slide the hitch into the receiver, insert the internal pinch block, tighten the M16 locking bolt, attach the rack. The only tool you need is a spanner for the M16.

Why we built it.
I wanted a proper rear bar setup for my 4WD without cutting the bumper. Spent months looking. Couldn't find one I liked.
So I built a swing-away that slides into the hitch. Ten minutes on. Ten minutes off. Holds 150kg, keeps the towing, and comes off Sunday night so the daily driver goes back to normal.
