When you're tight on space, the swing-away rack is fantastic. On a recent trip, we found it invaluable for storing all the gear we needed, and accessing the rear of the vehicle was effortless.The whole setup is a bit like an IKEA flat-pack. If you can assemble one of those, you can handle this. It took around three hours to put together, but you'll need two people due to the weight of the components.

Absolute game-changer for a lap around Australia

I just finished doing a full lap around Australia with the Novaa Gear 4x4 Base Station on my Grand Cherokee, and it performed flawlessly. When you are living out of your car for that long, space inside the rig is at an absolute premium. This system completely transformed our setup by getting the heavy spare tire and our fuel/water jerry cans out of the car and off the roof. Moving the spare tyre onto the rear rack made it so much easier to access when needed, rather than struggling to get to it under the car. Plus, clearing out that empty cavity under the body allowed me to install a permanent water tank right where the spare tire used to sit, massively increasing our water capacity for remote areas. Keeping all that weight low and centered on the hitch made a massive difference in how the Jeep handled. I took it through everything—horrendous outback corrugations, deep washouts, and endless dust—and the swing-away didn't rattle or miss a beat. The best part is the convenience. Being able to swing the whole rack out of the way effortlessly meant I always had quick, easy access to the back of the Grand Cherokee at camp.

Versatility is the key word. I will be bolting all sort of things to this rack. Used it for the Novaa table and the water tank on our last trip, but am currently looking to convert it to a wheel rack for spare bike wheels.

Brilliant little tank, with an amazing volume. We used it for a weekend away, and there was enough water for showers, cleaning the bikes etc. fits beautifully between the rack and the door, and travels along for free. no heavy jerrycans in the car to deal with.,

Final a manufacture listens to the end user. A fabulous product, has great coverage at the rear with the camera and screen. Would highly recommend this to anyone who has brought the NOVA rear bar. When not in use I will be using the on my camper trailer.

Took my GX 550 overtrail from Sydney to Lake Eyre for 3 weeks Thankful for the NOVA swing away as I had a full load and don’t like towing. Did Wilpena Pound and all the dirt and mud roads the William Creek to Coober Pedy along the Oodnadatta track to Coober Pedy. Thankful I had a spare on the the back of the swing away as the tyre was shredded and wheel rim basically on the ground. I didn’t have to scramble under the car in all the rubble to get the original spare from underneath Loved the fact I had a table for the cheese and biscuits and G & T ‘s when we stopped for pics Now I can take it off and look like the Average Urban in his oversize unused SUV. HAH

Has taken an absolute battering. We are just over 2 months in to a six months trip around Aus. Without lugging a caravan around we can go anywhere (and have been). Our standard setup is 60L of water, spare tyre, Echidna tyre bag and a compressor. It's a heavy load but the bar cops it well enough. We only keep a full 60L on it when we need to as it is heavy. Has been working great. Needs some maintanence (screw tightening) every now and again we did have some issues originally with the cutting board swelling after getting wet. But we sanded it back and its all good now. All things considered its been awesome!

So happy with the setup. Pretty solid and versatile design. Allows so many different configurations to suit my need. Done over 5500kms with it and was a life saver when travelling with kids and you can carry all you neeed while allowing easy access when you need them. Most importantly awesome customer support.

The Nova Gear hitch system, has been nothing short of amazing, solid and reliable. I have travelled thousands of kilometres, down highways, 4wd Tracks, Dirt Roads, the Snow and even in the city. It lives pretty much fulltime on the back, and has let me do everything from move cargo, go camping, set it up with water, hot water and even BBQ's on the beach. It has adapted as we have gone on different trips, cannot recommend it highly enough. It can really also take a beating!

Great bit of kit. We are not 4 x 4 car owners, but the hitch worked equally well on a standard van. We ordered the hitch with the water tank, table and the provision for 2 bike racks, and the whole assembly has come together brilliantly. Very happy with the set-up, and looking forward to many camping trips.

10,000km from Sydney to the channel country

I bought a Novaa base station for a 10,000km trek from Sydney which included a traverse of the Anne Beadell Highway, the Connie Sue Highway, back along the Outback Way from Warburton to Alice Springs via Kings Canyon, Finke River, Palm Valley, and then across the Simpson Desert on the Madigan Line and then north on the Hay River Track before entering the channel country. I needed something tough and practical to stay in place on my Prado Altitude and the Novaa base station was perfect. I had a second spare wheel, three diesel jerry cans and two 20L slim water tanks on the base station. It was easy to swing open even when fully loaded, did not disrupt the driving and gave me invaluable space in the cabin for all the other gear. With a bit of a hose down to get rid of the red sand and dirt, it slid out easily at the end, ready for another trip in the future. Couldn't recommend it more.

Fantastic bit of kit, it has freed up a lot of space within the car. It's also allowed the space for the car spare wheel to be utilised for a 62lt water tank. The starlink antenna fits perfectly above the spare tyre in the rack. This has been tested on some serious offroad, and has performed outstandingly. You don't even know It's there. Definitely recommend this over a fixed system, as it's very diverse in its uses.

This swing bar is great - it has taken our camping to another level. No more trying to heave heavy gear onto the roof. We didn’t want a rear bar on the vehicle - too much weight. The Novaa swing cargo hitch/ swing bar is a perfect alternative. Versatile and easy to install, I’d recommend it for anyone who needs to add to their options for cargo loading.

A fantastic product. Extremely well built, welds are spot on, powder coating is very durable and the bushings, latches and locking mechanisms are strong as! I have taken mine up 600kms of corrugated roads and over 12,000kms in total. It’s just as good as the first day I got! The drop down table is a must!

Incredible! Tough as guts, and so easy to use. The hinge and bushing is strong and I can stand on the edge when fully opened! I have a 33inch wheel, 40litres of fuel, wheel bag with chairs and tables the lot! And make sure you get the drop down table! Another 1.5 metres of table space at your back door!

I needed a solution to get weight from my roof down nearer the ground for a trip to northern Western Australia. 60kgs of fuel and 40kgs of tyre. The Base station ticked all the boxes and proved a valuable piece of kit while doing our gruelling 2500km trek. It withstood some horrendous corrugations and took some heavy blows when driving through gnarly washouts. It didn't miss a beat and while I have passed on some potential small mods to help improve the beast (and Locklan is all over this stuff), in its current form, this is a valuable piece of equipment in my off-roading adventures. Best set up I have seen and purchased, if your after an easy dyi set up without having to go through the whole drama of having a rear bar installed this is the one for you. When your not using it you can easily detach from your 4wd and store away till your next camping trip, its light and can hold a ton of numerous items from jerry cans to storage boxes and having extra add ons like bike racks and water containers makes this a very handy set up to have. I love my rear bar set up because it has the capability to carry x3 20ltr jerry cans or storage boxs plus a saper tyre up to 35" wheel and a 18ltr water container attached, but the best thing i love about my rear bar set up is the drop down bench that can hold a dual burner plate with a slide out table underneath it. So if your in the market for well versed rear bar set up that can carry more that you can think off dont go past Novaa Gears rear bar set up. Well worth the purchase.

Fantastic gear. Extremely easy to install or remove. I now have additional storage for my 2 cars and can mount it too the back of a caravan with hitch receiver. Extremely strong, holding 150kg, great quality bushings, Teflon and stainless components. I can’t wait to get the bike racks to fit on now!

I have a VW T5 that has been converted into a campervan for myself and two puppies to travel in. As an older lady I always worried about getting a flat tyre as I don’t think I would have been able to access spare under van and was looking for a viable solution when I found Novvaa. The base station was perfect for my needs- tyre accessible and storage for the puppies pram as well. Locklan’s customer service was amazing and I even managed to assemble and install on my own. The Novaa base station is a great piece of kit for my outback travel. I can now carry enough water and fuel to get me anywhere. This station is so portable I can take it off when I am back home doing shorter trips without having the weight and expense of a permanent heavy rear bar.
